I love the writing, much more than ethics proposals and that type of paperwork. Writing again, but just like everything in the PhD process this writing is new. I am trying to write findings right now and it is a challenge. I’m trying to approach this by writing a few posts on social media just to get a feel for things.
I feel you - the findings part is always hard for me to write (and this is the second time for my second article, because I am doing a PhD by publication) - I feel like I will never learn to do it faster or more confidently! I am sure I need time. I have seen your posts and they are very encouraging, thank you so much for them!
I *love* to write. I feel it is what I do best. However... starting is the most difficult part of it for me. I agonise over how to begin. I can sit before my screen for days on end, fingers on keys, and not know how to begin. It is my partner who always comes to my aid (I don't know why, during moments like this I cannot ever remember this advice.), reminding me: 'Just write *anything*... even if it's crap'. 'No one has to see it, no one but you', she says. That is all I need and I'm off and typing. Other things that get me out of my head are 1) reading out loud my writing (yes, even the 'crap', 🤣) to my partner, and then discussing it and 2) handwriting my stream of thoughts. The thoughts do not have to be all academic, they can be, but they can also be other things that are coming to mind while writing the 'stream', just as long as I'm clearing my head in that moment and allowing myself to be creative. It is helpful. It often leads to moving from the stream of thoughts to the computer for some productive work.
Thank you for this terrific post and the blast from the past with the song of the day. Fun. 😁
Thank you for your wonderful comment - what great tips from your partner and you! You are right, we should just start writing and then we can sift through what we have written : ) Starting is also my issue and now I will do what you mention!
I definitely recognized the song of the day and I definitely loved your post again, Vicky!!! What a great treat every Saturday! Thank you!
I’m very happy you like them! Thank you!!!!
