How did the conference go? Plus, the Music Highlight
Two days ago, on Thursday, I presented at a great conference called AILA 2024 (AILA is the acronym for Association Internationale de Linguistique Appliquée or International Association of Applied Linguistics. AILA - originally founded in 1964 in France - is an international federation of national and regional associations of Applied Linguistics).
I was so happy to present my research there and it was so great because the conference was hybrid - you could attend in Malaysia if you could, or like me, you could present online if you couldn’t make the trip.
It was such a supportive environment, both from the conference organizers - the event was organized impeccably, to the last detail - and also in the Zoom room, the people who were there to listen to my talk, it was all so great!
It was a series of talks on our slot - I was the first one to go - and then I could listen to the rest, and the Q&A session was right after. I listened to some great people and was amazed by their research! It makes you think, wow - how did that person come up with that idea? It’s always so refreshing to get to know other researchers and see what they’re studying.
Stay tuned for the next few Saturdays - I will start a series about presenting at conferences and other events. I have a lot of experience presenting for years and I also teach my students how to do it. It’s one of my favorite things to teach!
The Music Highlight
One of my favorite bands are Hall and Oates. Before the conference, I was listening to their songs to give me some pep! Here is one of them:
Have a great weekend!
Oh wow, can't wait for your mini-series on presentations and conferences. I have quite a bit of experience in presenting in general (but more from the corporate world), and I am already quite nervous to attend and present at my first HUGE scientific conference in November!
