I have been a fan of podcasts for several years now - thanks to my good friend, James Taylor, who is an educator, materials writer, and the Creative Director and Producer of all three of my own podcasts!
Here they are:
The PhonPod Podcast: a podcast about phonology and phonetics.
Meet the PhDs Podcast: about anything PhD-related with amazing guests, who have either done a PhD, are doing one, want to do one, teach PhD students!
Linguistics Now: some lovely people inspired me to do this one, because they wanted a more general linguistics podcast
And now, after introducing my own podcasts, let's go to some amazing ones that are my favourites! I will split them up into categories, in order to make it easier for you to find something you may like. I am using the descriptions from the podcasts themselves.
Indigenous Podcasts
Telling our Twisted Histories: 'Words connect us. Words hurt us. Indigenous histories have been twisted by centuries of colonization. Host Kaniehti:io Horn brings us together to decolonize our minds – one word, one concept, one story at a time.'
Unreserved: 'Unreserved is the radio space for Indigenous community, culture, and conversation. Host Rosanna Deerchild takes you straight into Indigenous Canada, from Halifax to Haida Gwaii, from Shamattawa to Ottawa, introducing listeners to the storytellers, culture makers and community shakers from across the country.'
Stolen (also Winner of the Pulitzer Prize!): 'Investigative journalist Connie Walker uncovers a story about her late father. In the 70's, her father was working as an RCMP and pulled over a suspected drunk driver who also happened to be a ghost from his past, a priest from a residential school. Connie goes into the past and tries to uncover and understand her families intergenerational trauma.'
Productivity Podcasts (you will find only healthy things here, not tips that push people to burnout):
The Deep Life by Cal Newport: TDL is the online home of the Deep Life Movement, which argues for the importance of focus in a world increasingly deluged by distraction. “The deep life” is a term coined by professor and writer Cal Newport, who explored the costs of shallowness and the joys of depth in his bestselling books. (If you prefer video, he also has his podcasts recorded on YouTube - you can find it all in the TDL link I included.)
About Progress by Monica Packer: Monica, an entrepreneur and mom of five, guides us with the slogan: Life is about growth, not perfection.
Best Laid Plans with Sarah Hart-Unger: Sarah unpacks everything planning, tries out any kind of planner you can think of, gives us her opinions on them; tells us how she plans; gives us leeway in planning and shares her high and low points too.
The Productive Woman by Laura McClellan: Laura shares her amazing productivity tips, in healthy terms; helps us manage our busy days and stress; and have a life that matters.
Happy listening and Part 2 will be coming soon!
