Here we are with Part 4!
Have you read the first three parts?
Here they are:
You don’t need to be on social media all the time.
In 2009, I created a Twitter account. Up until then, the only social medium I’d had was YouTube. If you’re interested in why I created a Twitter account, read this post from my now defunct blog (I’m keeping it forever, because I really love it - even though I don’t write on it anymore).
I then had Facebook (I kept it only for three years, it wasn’t my thing), and every single social network that came out. If it was newly-created, I was on it - even Foursquare, which was kind of dangerous, as you checked in from every place you visited. At any given time, everyone knew where I was.
To be fair, I used and still use social media for my work - my teaching, and now my PhD as well.
However, I used to spend so much time on it that at some point in 2016 I was really wondering what I was doing, and how much time was just flying past because I wasn’t doing my favorite things anymore.
I went on a hiatus from 2018 to 2020 and then I came back, much more intentional about my use of social media and most of the time I’m good with it now - except if I start watching YouTube shorts and Duran Duran keep popping up 😉
It is great to try yourself in new professional roles. So far, I have been a teacher and now lecturer for 28 years; however, last year my employer asked me to also be a student consultant and alumni officer and I love both roles! I love coming into contact with former and prospective students, discussing with them and giving them advice - I am sure I am going to enjoy these two additional roles very much!
The Music Highlight
Today’s singer is a literal angel of a voice - she’s Canadian, she’s amazing, she’s k.d. lang!
I love her voice, her songs and her covers are out of this world - and I don’t like covers too easily.
I’ve chosen my favourite k.d. song for today - when I taught teens and young adults, I’d incorporate the music video paired with an excerpt from Waiting for Godot. Once you see the video, you’ll see why. If you’d like the lesson plan, please email me at vickyloras@yahoo.ca!
Fun fact: many years ago I shared on Twitter that I use the video in my classes, and k.d. liked my tweet and told me she loved the idea 😀 She’s so great!
